A workshop on Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crimes
Began in Kathmandu
A workshop on Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crime has been kicked-off at the National Judicial Academy, Nepal, Manamaiju, Kathmandu (NJA) today on 18th of April, 2018. This workshop is being organized by NJA in collaboration with the United States, Department of Justice and the US Embassy, Kathmandu. 
Several speakers from the US and Nepal are leading the three-days workshop, attended by representatives from different entities of law enforcement and financial sectors that include Judges from the High Courts, Special Court and District Courts, Officers from the Office of the Attorney General, Department of Money Laundering Investigation and Nepal Rastra Bank (Central Bank of Nepal).
The workshop addresses different topics on anti-money laundering and financial crime. It also discusses investigation tools and its procedures, in addition to gathering evidence and using advanced sources and techniques on the topic.
At the opening session of the program, the Executive Director of the NJA Hon’ble Mr. Keshari Raj Pandit said that the workshop is being held in co-operation with the US Department of Justice, hoping it will contribute to strengthen capacity of the participants and help develop mutual co-ordination and co-operation among each other, which turn into their work at the work level. In his opening remarks, Executive Director also highlighted the works done by NJA in the past in collaboration with DoJ,/OPDAT and US Embassy in Kathmandu

A Training on Civil Code and Penal Code is in Progress
in Kathmandu
A week long training program on newly promulgated Civil Code and Penal Code for District Court Judges is in Progress at the National Judicial Academy, Nepal, Manmaiju, Kathmandu (NJA). The attendees of the program are 32 judges from different District Courts across the Country. This program was started on 15th of April 2018 and will last till 20th April 2018. The main purpose of this training program is to make aware the District Court Judges on the provisions of the 6 different new Acts which include the National Civil (Code) Act, 2074, the National Civil Procedural (Code) Act, 2074, the National Penal (Code) Act, 2074, the National Criminal Procedural (Code) Act, 2074, the Criminal Offences (Punishment Pronouncement and Implementation) Act, 2074 and the Amendment, Unification, Harmonization, and Repealing of Some Nepal Laws, Act, 2074. All these new laws are coming into effect from 17th of August 2018. This is the fifth and last program of this type targeted to the District Court Judges. Before this, NJA organized five Trainings of Trainers to the High Court and District Court Judges and Court Officials, one Training of Trainers to the Private Lawyers, one Training to the New Public Prosecutors, one Training to the High Level Police Officers, one Training to the Chief Judges of the High Courts and four Trainings to the Judges of the High Courts and District Courts on the same subject. Furthermore, NJA is planning to organize such programs to the remaining High Court Judges and Court Officials.
